What is a PPGI?

The abbreviation PPGI stands for pre-painted galvanized iron. It’s alternative names are pre-coated steel, pre-painted galvanized steel, coil coated steel, etc.


 The part of the PPGI abbreviation is GI, which stands for (yes you know it), galvanized iron. Galvanized iron is essentially a zinc coating on steel sheet, which role is to protect the steel when exposed to corroding environment (galvanic protection). We will describe galvanic protection in later articles, so be sure to come back!

  Term PPGI may also be used as a general term for many metallic coated steel products that have been pre-painted. When you talk to traders and manufacturers, PPGI is mostly referred as pre-painted zinc coated steel.

Turkey to Impose Steel Import Quotas on October

Earlier, US President Donald Trump had authorized the doubling of previously-imposed import tariffs on Turkish aluminum and steel to 20 percent and 50 percent Turkey told the World Trade Organization that it will impose steel import quotas starting from October 17, to shield Turkey's steel industry from a surge in imports. Turkey has been in conflict with the United States over trade issues since March, when Trump initially introduced the 10 and 25 percent duties on imports of aluminum and steel, respectively, from US trade partners, including Turkey. Ankara has called the tariffs unacceptable and pledged to take retaliatory measures. Turkish Trade Ministry pointed out that the US extra tariffs are against the World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.
